Reconsidering safety and reducing barriers to MRI in patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices

Non-magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) conditional devices, leads, and abandoned leads traditionally represent a contraindication to MRI. Patients with MRI-conditional devices can safely undergo MRI if pre-defined device manufacturer steps are followed and met prior to and after performing MRI. Bhuva et al.4 provided data in support of a new contemporary approach in which patients with non-MRI-conditional devices can be safely offered MRI with caution, as detailed in the article.
